COACHES
CLAF’s coaches comprise a united collective of like-minded persons. All the coaches are quite young (an average age is approximately 21), but they already possess an extensive experience in the field of training juniour teams in American football. The majority of our coaches are former players from ‘Russian bears’. So, not only have they studied theory, but also they had a valuable experience ‘in the field’.
Fieldwork in the USA had a crucial contribution into the preparation of our coaches. All the coaches visited the USA in summer 1995 (Midville city, Pennsylvania state). They spent 2 weeks in the sport camp of Allegini College. Throughout this relatively short period of time they gained a lot of experience from the work of their American colleagues.
In the fall of 1996 two CLAF’s coaches Vassiliy Dobryakov and Alexander Shevchencko went to Midville again. They stayed there with the team of Allegini College for the whole season. This time they were not simply observing what was going on. They joined the coaches’ staff of the college. During these 3 moths they assisted their American colleagues and studied how to conduct games and training.
Huge experiences in training American football players have been steadily accumulated. In April-May of 1997 on the basis Institution of qualification improvement under the Russian Physical Culture State Academy there were opened training courses: ‘Theory and methodology of training in American football” (this course was supposed to be of 112 hours). All the CLAF’s coaches have been studying the following subjects during 2 months: ‘The principles of theory and methodology of sport training’, ‘The problem of preparation of the sport reserves’, ‘Theory and methodology of training in American football’, etc.
Much assistance was coming from practical students – players showing highest results and succeeding in playing for their teams. Later these guys would become skilled specialists and would substitute the current coaches staff of CLAF.
