Tad Williams was born in 1957 near San Jose. After high school, instead of going to college, he switched from one job to another, writing in his spare time. He worked in a shoe store, hosted a syndicated radio show, collected loans, etc. Then he published his first book -- Tailchaser's Song, in 1985.

Since then, he's written the Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn trilogy; a number of stand-alone works: Child Of An Ancient City, Caliban's Hour, Legends Anthology; and is in the process of writing another series -- Otherland. The new book in that series, Mountain of Black Glass, came out only a few months ago, and has recieved wonderful reviews.
