Arwen's Call
In Elven-home I spent my days; When golden evening came Our minstrels chanted Elven lays Of times of worth and fame, Of good and evil done and said; But most I loved the tale That tells how Beren came to wed With Elven Nightingale. The mortal fate was hard to take, Yet when her lord was slain She chose to die for Beren’s sake, For them to meet again. I chanced to walk in wild alone, And so I met him there – The Man now known as Elven-stone, The One Isildur’s Heir. Long years of sorrow between us lay; But when we met once more I chose the sweet though bitter way Of she so loved of yore. Your time will come. Hear! I forebode: You will appear then No Ranger weary that searched and strode – High King of Elves and Men. Though grief and toil await us both – Your aim is high and far – You will succeed, now bound in troth To Lady Evenstar. |
